Beyond Periodicity: Towards a Unifying Framework for Activations in Coordinate-MLPs

چکیده
Coordinate-MLPs are emerging as an effective tool for modeling multidimensional continuous signals, overcoming many drawbacks associated with discrete grid-based approximations. However, coordinate-MLPs ReLU activations, in their rudimentary form, demonstrate poor performance representing signals high fidelity, promoting the need positional embedding layers. Recently, Sitzmann et al. [24] proposed a sinusoidal activation function that has capacity to omit from while still preserving signal fidelity. Despite its potential, ReLUs dominating space of coordinate-MLPs; we speculate this is due hyper-sensitivity networks – employ such activations initialization schemes. In paper, attempt broaden current understanding effect coordinate-MLPs, and show there exists broader class suitable encoding signals. We affirm only single example class, propose several non-periodic functions empirically more robust against random initializations than sinusoids. Finally, advocate shift towards these non-traditional simplicity (Code available at https://github.com/samgregoost/Beyond periodicity ).

We propose a comprehensive formal framework to classify all market models of cyber-insurance we are aware of. The framework features a common terminology and deals with the specific properties of cyber-risk in a unified way: interdependent security, correlated risk, and information asymmetries. A survey of existing models, tabulated according to our framework, reveals a discrepancy between info...
متن کاملTowards a unifying framework for demand-driven directed transport (D3T)
Decentralized autonomous systems have the potential to be more performant, resilient and sustainable than classical systems under central control. For example, this includes vehicle routing problems in logistics systems, courier services, and public transport. Here, we outline elements of a framework to model, simulate, and assess the performance of such demand-driven directed transport (D3T) s...
متن کاملTowards a Unifying Conceptual Framework for Inconsistency Management Approaches
The problem of managing inconsistencies within and between models is omnipresent in software engineering. Over the years many different inconsistency management approaches have been proposed by the research community. Because of their large diversity of backgrounds and the diversity of models being considered, it is difficult to pinpoint what these approaches have in common and what not. As a r...
متن کاملTowards a Logic-Based Unifying Framework for Computing
Computer Science today lacks a unified view of Computing. Instead, the main subareas, most notably artificial intelligence, database systems and programming languages, offer different and often competing approaches to knowledge representation, problem-solving and computation. In this paper we propose a unifying logic-based, framework for Computing, inspired by artificial intelligence, but scale...
